The Term of SACRIFICE: the issue of collective vs. personal interest

LOG LINE
A hunted child will find refuge in the house of the enemy.
The host faces a terrible choice: save the child’s life or risk losing his own family.

*The film re-examines the value of an individual human sacrifice through the prism of two different worlds: the world of honour and the world of war.

SYNOPSIS
In the midst of World War II, a boy finds temporary shelter in the home of the legendary Albanian war hero Nuredin Doka after fleeing from fascist persecutors who killed his parents and burned down his village. However, when the same paramilitary unit demands the boy’s execution, Nuredin must choose between his own honor and the lives of his family, questioning the brutal difference between personal and collective interests. Nuredin, a Muslim and an Albanian, opens his home to a child of the Christian faith during a time when one’s name and nationality were matters of life and death in the Balkans. When Nur runs out of options, he is faced with a choice that will challenge his principles and define his legacy. The question is: what will Nur do?

DIRECTOR’ NOTE:
Imagine a powerful collaboration between Jews and Palestinians – together making a movie about how to rise above nation/religion and be human? Can you imagine a few Russians and Ukrainians nowadays, Indians and Pakistanis, North and South Koreans, Turks and Greeks, making a movie that showcases how we can transcend the boundaries of nation and religion and unite as human beings? Despite centuries of bloodshed, a few brave individuals from opposing sides come together to create a cinematic story that offers hope for a better future.
My ancestors and the ancestors of the actors in my film – they looked at each other through the sights of a rifle for a long time, and those wounds still run deep and much alive today, both within them and within us.
This is why my upcoming film, which features a Muslim hero who sacrifices everything to save an innocent Christian child, is more than just a work of art. It’s a powerful reminder that universal human values can overcome even the most entrenched differences.
The story is set in the Balkan region, but its message is universal. It’s an ode to humanity, a prayer for peace, and a poignant tale of sacrifice and values that we all need. By rising above our small human determinations, we can create a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come.
